"With my new hearing, I'm simply much more relaxed in all kinds of situations."
My name is Christina, I live in Graz and I am a cochlear implant user myself. I've had hearing problems since I was little. From the age of four, I was given conventional hearing aids, which helped me. But in 2016, I suffered a sudden hearing loss on my right side, which led to complete hearing loss. That was a huge shock for me. But I knew right from the start that I wanted to hear. So I did some research and spoke to a hearing consultant and a clinical engineer. That's how I came to my decision to have an implant.
My new life with the implant began immediately after my initial fitting. This meant wearing the audio processor every day from the moment I got up until I went to bed. I made rapid progress. Thanks to my CI, I soon discovered many new sounds, which made me very happy. I could finally hear bass in music again. I love listening to music and am fascinated by how well it works with the CI. I can also listen in a relaxed manner and actively participate in conversations again, even in larger groups. In general, I take part in social life so much more!
My most important tip
I advise everyone to accept all the help they can get. Contact with other sufferers is particularly important and helpful. In addition, you shouldn't put yourself under pressure to make a decision, but don't hesitate too long either - it can only get better!
