Florian
"Hearing with the CI works quite normally and I'm very happy about that."
My name is Florian and I have a cochlear implant on one side. After a viral infection at the age of 39, I suffered an inner ear infection that eventually led to unilateral deafness. Although it is possible to hear on one side only, it is much more strenuous than it might seem. Especially in noisy environments, it was difficult to follow conversations in groups. In my job, I have a lot to do with people and this became increasingly tiring. That's why I quickly made the decision to have an implant.
Now I can cope much better in noisy environments and directional hearing is also possible again. Hearing is stress-free for me again. I wear my audio processor every day from early in the morning until late at night; I wouldn't want to be without it. The decision was not easy, but I would do it again today.
My most important tip
My advice is to consciously consider the decision to have an implant and ask lots of questions. You should also be patient and not be put off by the sometimes challenging journey. After all, the reward is hearing life: exciting conversations, music or discovering nature in a noisy way.
