Jasmine

My name is Jasmin, I live in Bludenz and I have bilateral cochlear implants. I already suffered from hearing loss as a small child, but was initially fitted with conventional hearing aids. However, my hearing got worse and worse until I decided to have an implant on the left side at the age of 14. At that time, my speech therapist put me in touch with a CI user with whom I spoke. After the conversation, it was clear to me that I wanted to take the plunge, and my parents were also behind me. When I was 15, I also had an implant on the other side. The decision was easy for me and absolutely the right one. After the implantation, a new life began for me.

I have much better speech understanding, especially in noisy environments, as well as better directional hearing. With my hearing aids, I was very introverted and just sat at home, now I can participate much more in life. My favorite sounds are when I'm out walking in nature: rustling leaves, snow under my shoes, a rushing river, ... Today, thanks to my CIs, I'm able to pursue my dream job as a hearing aid acoustician.

My most important tip

I can only advise those affected to be patient. It is a long road to hearing success, sometimes with some challenges. Training and speech therapy are an important part of success and support from family members is also very important.
